Volunteer Opportunity: Community Art Workshop Facilitator
Location: Craig Family Centre, Ashburton
Start Date: From 6th February 2026 (Classes occur every Friday, 1-3pm, during school terms)
Time Commitment: Flexible — one-off or regular sessions
About the Role: We’re inviting passionate creatives, emerging art teachers, or skilled hobbyists to volunteer as art facilitators at the Craig Family Centre. Whether you want to run a one-off workshop or a term-based series, we’d love to hear your ideas.
This is your chance to:
- Share your artistic skills with the community
- Build confidence in facilitating creative workshops
- Try out a lesson plan or art curriculum in a low-pressure setting
- Connect with others through creativity
You choose the medium – painting, drawing, collage, textiles, sculpture, mixed media – and the age group you’d like to work with (children, adults, seniors, or all ages). We can help you develop a session plan if you’re just starting out, or give you the freedom to design your own sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead an engaging creative session (or series of sessions)
- Prepare basic materials and set up the room (support provided)
- Guide a small group (up to 10 participants)
- Create a welcoming and inclusive space for learning
- Communicate with staff to ensure smooth delivery
- If working with children: hold a valid Working With Children Check
Skills & Experience (desirable but not essential):
- Passion for art and creativity
- Clear communication and ability to guide small groups
- Confidence in teaching or willingness to learn
- Experience with community groups, kids, or older adults (optional)
- Working With Children Check (if facilitating children’s sessions)
