The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Multicultural Association of Russian Speaking Women - Ogonyok.

Previous experience in community services is an advantage, but not required. This is also a valuable opportunity for social work students or those studying community services to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment.

Volunteers will work alongside one of our experienced community workers, who will provide ongoing guidance and support. You will assist our team in helping clients access services and resources, while also developing your own skills in communication, administration, and client support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients with completing forms, applications, and accessing local services.
  • Helping with client follow-up calls and scheduling appointments (with guidance if needed).
  • Preparing information packs and resources for community programs or individual needs.
  • Supporting group activities, workshops, or events.
  • Assisting with record-keeping and general administration.
  • Exploring funding opportunities and supporting applications, as well as building partnerships with government and community organisations.

Please note: volunteers will not be responsible for developing care plans or carrying out tasks reserved for qualified, paid social workers.


Skills & Experience

  • Currently studying or interested in social work, community services, or related fields.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work well in a team.
  • Good spoken and written English skills (essential).
  • Passionate, flexible, and empathetic — especially when working with vulnerable groups, older people, and clients with diverse abilities.
  • Police check preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Russian is helpful but not required.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and maintaining professional boundaries.
