The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this position on behalf of Special Olympics Melbourne Inner East (MIE).
The Co-Vice Chair plays a key supporting role in the leadership of our club, working collaboratively with the Chair, Co-Vice Chair, and Committee to ensure strong governance, strategic alignment, and inclusive opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID). This volunteer position requires a passion for inclusion, strong teamwork and leadership skills, and a commitment to the mission of Special Olympics Australia (SOA).
The Co-Vice Chair will assist in driving a culture of collaboration and accountability, ensuring agreed outcomes are delivered for MIE while supporting the wellbeing and empowerment of athletes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Chair in implementing MIE’s vision and strategic plans aligned with SOA’s goals.
- Share responsibility for leading committee meetings when required and fostering effective communication among members.
- Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with SOA guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Chair and Committee on sports programs, competitions, and social events for individuals with ID.
- Work closely with volunteers and coaches to ensure inclusive and accessible opportunities.
- Advocate for athletes and promote MIE’s activities within the community.
- Build positive relationships with families, carers, and local organisations.
- Support fundraising and grant initiatives in collaboration with the fundraising sub-committee.
- Provide oversight and input to communications strategies to ensure alignment with MIE and SOA messaging.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and support to maintain a positive and inclusive culture.
- Promote athlete leadership and ensure athletes are central to decision-making.
- Prepare reports and updates for the Committee and SOA as required.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in leadership or governance roles
- Previous experience as a chair, vice chair, or committee member (desirable)
- Experience in not-for-profit or disability organisations (desirable)
KEY TASKS:
- Support the Chair in leading committee meetings and decision-making
- Assist in delivering MIE’s development objectives within agreed budgets
- Represent MIE in internal and external settings when required
- Contribute to partnerships, funding opportunities, and community engagement
- Focus on athlete outcomes and inclusion in all activities
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
