The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is promoting this opportunity on behalf of Inclusion Melbourne Inc.
Inclusion Melbourne is a not-for-profit organisation supporting adults with intellectual and cognitive disabilities to participate fully in community life. The organisation provides personalised community-based support, social connection programs, and opportunities for skill development, and also delivers the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) to reduce loneliness and social isolation among older Australians.
Benefits of Volunteering
Volunteers gain meaningful experience, develop interpersonal skills, and receive ongoing training and support. They join a community of volunteers, expand social networks, and experience personal fulfilment by providing friendship and companionship to older Australians.
Impact of the Role
Volunteers help reduce social isolation and loneliness, enhance the quality of life of older people, and contribute to stronger, more connected communities. They provide regular social contact and emotional support, enriching both the volunteer’s and the recipient’s lives.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers typically visit their matched older person for about one hour every fortnight or weekly. Activities include conversation, shared hobbies, reading, walks, or other companionship activities. Volunteers provide support through friendship, not health or clinical care.
Requirements and Application Steps
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate empathy, reliability, and interest in building lasting friendships.
