2-3 hours once or twice a week. Times: 9.15-12.15pm, 12.15-3.15pm Choice of one or two days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday (dependent on volunteer's availability and slots available.)

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Alamein Neighbourhood & Learning.

Alamein Neighbourhood & Learning is a friendly neighbourhood house located in Ashburton, running programs in adult community education in English, technology, employment and job skills, as well as local community activities, men's shed, community garden, Commonwealth Home Support Programme, a chatty cafe, community referral and events.

We are looking for some volunteers to meet and greet people as they come into Alamein to ensure that people feel welcome and comfortable in the centre, and also make tea or coffee when required.

TASKS/DUTIES INVOLVED:

  • Greet visitors to Alamein with a hello and a smile.
  • Direct visitors and Alamein participants to the correct room or staff member.
  • Answer basic questions about Alamein or refer on to correct staff member.
  • Promote activities that Alamein does.
  • Make coffee/ tea for visitors
  • Keep the common area / kitchen clean by stacking dishwasher, putting away clean dishes/ cups from the dishwasher, wiping down benches when needed.
  • Notify staff of any tea/ coffee etc. items that need to be re-ordered.
  • Support with admin work (such as photocopying) if requested.
  • Engage in / support with events held in the centre.
  • Follow all Work, Health & Safety practices related to the role.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Clear speaking & excellent understanding of English.
  • Ability to understand all Work, Health & Safety practices related to the role.
  • Comfortable to chat with people and have a friendly disposition.
  • Ability to make coffee (using a coffee machine) and tea. Previous barista experience is a plus but not essential as will be trained in this if needed.
  • Punctual
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Have an excellent understanding of what Alamein does.
  • Ability to learn about what resources are available in the local community.
  • Understanding of spoken Mandarin, Korean, Japanese or Spanish (not essential, but helpful).
