Commitment

Time required

This role involves a consistent weekly commitment of approximately 1–2 hours to run the session. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to at least one school term (8–10 weeks) where possible. The day and time of the session can be arranged to suit your availability in collaboration with staff, however must be within office hours (MON-FRI 9 - 4.30pm).

Volunteer Opportunity: Community Game Session Facilitator

About the Role:

We’re looking for friendly, community-minded volunteers to facilitate a weekly games session for adults aged 45+ at the Craig Family Centre. This is a relaxed and social program designed to bring people together through fun, laughter, and shared activities. Whether you enjoy board games, card games, karaoke, or would love to start something like a “Mahjong Monday,” this is your chance to create a session that reflects your interests and personality.

This is your opportunity to:

  • Create a welcoming space for people to connect and reduce social isolation
  • Share your love of games and social activities
  • Build confidence in group facilitation
  • Bring your own ideas to life in a supportive, flexible environment
  • Help foster friendships and a sense of belonging in the community

You’ll have the freedom to run sessions your way — from structured game rounds to casual, drop-in style gatherings.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate a weekly 1–2 hour games session
  • Encourage participation and create an inclusive, friendly atmosphere
  • Support participants to learn new games or join in at their own pace
  • Communicate with staff to ensure sessions run smoothly

Skills & Experience (desirable but not essential):

  • Enjoyment of games, music, or social activities
  • Friendly and approachable communication style
  • Confidence engaging small groups
  • Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Experience working with older adults or community groups (a bonus)
