The primary objective of this role is to assist inclusive, accessible dance sessions that promote social connection, confidence, creativity, and wellbeing for people of mixed ages with Down syndrome. The role contributes to reducing isolation and enabling meaningful participation through movement, self-expression, and shared community experiences, in line with person-centred and strengths based-practice.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide respectful, friendly, and inclusive assistance to participants during dance sessions
- Encourage participation while recognising and responding to individual needs, preferences, and abilities
- Assist participants in ways that promote choice, independence, and self-expression
- Session Assistance
- Assist dance facilitators with session set-up and pack-down
- Assist the smooth running of sessions by helping participants engage safely and confidently
- Assist with transitions, group activities, and informal social interaction
Safety, Wellbeing and Safeguarding
- Support a safe, welcoming, and accessible environment at all times
- Follow organisational policies relating to duty of care, safeguarding, and positive behaviour
- Raise any concerns about participant wellbeing or safety with staff promptly
Record Keeping and Communication
- Provide feedback to the Program Coordinator as requested
- Attend briefings, training sessions, and supervision meetings where required
