The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this opportunity on behalf of BASSCARE.
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic volunteer to support our weekly choir and music program for people living with younger onset dementia.
Music has a powerful ability to connect people, evoke memories, enhance mood, reduce anxiety, and promote meaningful social interaction. For individuals living with dementia, singing and musical activities can support communication, self-expression, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.
As a Dementia Choir Volunteer, you will assist with group singing sessions, help create a welcoming and inclusive environment, and encourage participants to engage and enjoy the experience. This may include supporting the facilitation of songs, assisting with simple musical activities, or helping participants feel comfortable and involved.
The ideal volunteer will have a love of music, enjoy engaging with people, and feel confident participating in or supporting group singing activities. Experience in music, singing, performing, or playing an instrument is highly desirable but not essential. There may also be opportunities to take part in special performances and community events.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with dementia while sharing the joy and therapeutic benefits of music in a supportive and welcoming environment.
