The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of The Balwyn Evergreen Centre.

Evergreen Connections is a Community Visitors Program that matches caring volunteers with older people across Melbourne's eastern suburbs who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation.

It's a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your local community. Regular visits help reduce social isolation, foster genuine friendships and create lasting connections that enrich the lives of both volunteers and the older people they visit.

Current Opportunity

  • Spend time with Robert, a friendly older gentleman in Box Hill.
  • Male volunteer preferred.
  • Visit weekly or fortnightly at a time that suits you.
  • Share conversation, companionship and friendship.
  • Read the newspaper together and chat about current affairs.
  • Connect over shared interests, including Melbourne architecture, sport, music and painting.
  • Know you're making a positive difference in someone else's life—and your own.

You don't need any special skills or experience—just a friendly nature and a willingness to spend time with someone. As Robert has limited eyesight, he'd appreciate a volunteer who enjoys reading the newspaper aloud and sharing a good conversation. Balwyn Evergreen Centre carefully matches volunteers with older people to help ensure a positive experience for everyone, and ongoing support is only ever a phone call away.

The role is flexible and designed to fit around your schedule. Whether you visit during your lunch break, after work or on the weekend, the most important thing is establishing regular visits and building a meaningful connection.

NOTE: If you apply for this role Balwyn Evergreen Centre will email you. Please check your junk/spam mail.
