A simple visit can have a lasting impact.

Balwyn Evergreen Centre is seeking warm, compassionate volunteers to visit Frances in Kew or Treza in Bulleen, two older members of our community who would enjoy regular companionship and conversation.

Whether you're chatting over a cuppa, sharing stories, discussing current events or simply enjoying each other's company, your visits will provide meaningful social connection and help brighten their week.

If you have common interests, even better! You might enjoy talking about books, cooking, gardening, exploring local cafés, or other hobbies and life experiences. We aim to match volunteers and clients based on shared interests wherever possible, allowing genuine friendships to develop naturally.

About the role

As a Friendly Visitor, you will:

  • Visit Frances or Treza regularly at a mutually agreed time (one hour per week or fortnight)
  • Enjoy friendly conversation and companionship.
  • Build a meaningful and trusted friendship.
  • Encourage social connection and emotional wellbeing.
  • Help your client remain connected to her community.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Warm, friendly and a good listener.
  • An English speaker who enjoys conversation.
  • Reliable and able to commit to regular visits.
  • Compassionate and respectful of older people.
  • Keen to make a positive difference in someone's life.

Benefits

The gift of your time can make an enormous difference. By simply showing up, sharing a conversation and building a friendship, you'll help someone feel valued, connected and less alone—while gaining the reward of knowing you've made a genuine difference in someone's life.
