Commitment

Regular - more than 6 months

Time required

We have weekly meetings and weekend activities. Leaders can participate at a level that suits them, from weekly to every 2 or 3 weeks. Weekend camps are scheduled by Leaders and can be once a year, or more frequently if that is possible.

Training

Scouts Victoria provides extensive training in a variety of skills. After initial mandatory training, Leaders can undertake training in specialist outdoor skills and organisational develment and management skills.

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this opportunity on behalf of 4th Kew Scout Group.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist, or be responsible for the planning and running of exciting, challenging weekly and weekend programmes which attract new members and retain existing ones.
  • Supervise and provide the instruction, assistance and testing of youth members in skills appropriate to the program of the section especially in topics and skills of the Award Scheme.
  • Enhance the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual and emotional growth and personal development of all youth members by ensuring their participation in interesting programs, the Award Scheme and taking up of appropriate Leadership opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain the operation of the Patrol systems of youth leadership in the Section and instruct, guide and encourage them to undertake these responsibilities to ensure the effective functioning of the Section Council.
  • Promote the section’s activities within the Group and into the local community.
  • Plan the progression of members into the next section through Unit Council by developing an understanding of the operation of adjacent sections with the other Sections leaders
  • Establish and maintain friendly relationships with parents, involving them, where appropriate, in the activities and explain the principles and the reasons behind the Association programs.
  • Provide leadership to your Group Council, District Training and section program planning by regular attendance and contributing new ideas as a model to your Assistant Leaders
  • Contribute to the organization and management of District and Region run activities provided for the youth of your Section.
