The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this opportunity on behalf of Kew Toy Library.
About the role
We’re looking for a creative and enthusiastic volunteer to help keep Kew Toy Library’s social media accounts active, engaging and informative. The role involves managing our Instagram and Facebook accounts, with a focus on showcasing what Kew Toy Library offers, promoting events and programs, sharing useful information with families, and helping attract new members.
Key responsibilities
- Keep our Instagram and Facebook accounts active, with approximately 1–2 new posts per week.
- Currently, posts are created for Instagram and automatically shared to Facebook, so there is no requirement to create separate content for each platform.
- Monitor and respond to comments on Instagram/Facebook posts.
- Refer to our annual events calendar and create relevant posts for events and awareness days, such as Children’s Week, Science Week and other family-focused events.
- Create a variety of engaging content, including:
- Information that will appeal to potential new members
- Features of the toy library that current members may not be aware of
- Showcasing new toys and toy collections
- Toy reviews and recommendations (as provided by members)
- Stay & Play sessions and other programs
- Special offers and membership promotions
- Grant announcements and community achievements
- Volunteer and fundraising activities
- Use the toy reviews saved in Google Drive as a resource for creating new toy review posts.
- Re-share useful and relevant content from trusted organisations and sources, such as Toy Libraries Australia (TLA), where appropriate.
- Liaise with the Coordinator and/or Committee regarding upcoming events, promotions, announcements and other content as needed.
- Help ensure our social media presence reflects Kew Toy Library as a welcoming, community-focused and valuable resource for local families.
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to be a professional social media manager. We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a good knowledge and understanding of toy libraries and how they operate – essential.
- Enjoys social media and has a good understanding of Instagram and Facebook.
- Has an eye for interesting, engaging content.
- Can write friendly, clear and family-focused posts.
- Is comfortable using Canva or similar design tools (essential).
- a TikTok or short-form video content (helpful, but not essential).
- Can work independently while communicating with the Kew Toy Library team.
- Has an interest in children, play, community and/or early childhood development.
Time commitment
Approximately 1–2 posts per week, plus occasional time to monitor comments and plan upcoming content. The role is flexible and can largely be completed from home.
Why volunteer with us?
