About the Organisation:
St Mary's House of Welcome offers practical support and a welcoming community for people experiencing homelessness, poverty and social isolation. Providing nutritious meals is an important part of creating connection and dignity for service users.
About the Role:
St Mary's House of Welcome is looking for enthusiastic Lunch Service Volunteers to assist with the preparation, serving and clean-up of daily lunch services. Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers, you will help serve approximately 50 to 80 service users across two lunch sittings each day. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a team and contributing to a welcoming dining experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with basic food preparation
- Set tables and prepare the dining area
- Serve meals, soup or desserts to service users
- Distribute and collect dishes
- Clean and reset dining areas between sittings
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth service delivery
Skills and Experience:
The ideal volunteer will:
- Enjoy working in a busy and community-focused environment
- Have a friendly and welcoming manner
- Be comfortable interacting respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
- Work well as part of a team
- Remain calm and flexible when things get busy
