The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this opportunity on behalf of the Multicultural Association of Russian-speaking Women - Ogonyok.
This is a hands-on, end user support role focused on everyday devices and software. It suits IT students (TAFE or university) and juniors, and we welcome people at all levels, from basic IT knowledge to experienced people who enjoy helping others. Please note we are a community organisation, so this role focuses on everyday devices and user support rather than large network or enterprise systems.
What we may ask you to do:
- Help staff and volunteers with day to day computer, printer, phone and internet problems
- Support staff with mobile phones and tablets, including setup, email, apps and settings
- Guide staff and volunteers in using their devices and apps
- Set up new computers and user accounts
- Repair existing devices where possible
- Install and update software, and keep antivirus and Windows updates current
- Carry out basic hardware maintenance
- Log the issues you handle so we can spot recurring problems
What we are looking for:
- Basic IT knowledge and comfort using Windows and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
- Patience and clarity when explaining things to people of all technical levels
- A willingness to learn and the honesty to ask when something is new to you
- Reliability in turning up when you say you will
- Students currently studying IT or a related field are welcome to apply
- Able to travel to South East of Melbourne
Nice to have:
- Study or work experience in IT
- Experience fixing or building computers
- Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube
- Basic multimedia skills such as photo and video editing
