Regular - more than 6 months

Time Required

Once a week on weekdays preferably between 10am-4pm. More hours available if interested. This position requires the bus driver to ferry the residents to their appointments or take them on outings preferably on weekdays usually during early afternoons and evenings.

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Nazareth Care Australia.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from volunteers to support our Well- being & Lifestyle team at Camberwell.

The purpose of this volunteer role is to assist with the transportation of frail, elderly residents to a range of activities including, scenic drives, library or shopping, using the Nazareth Care car or automatic minibus. Your passion and enthusiasm will play a pivotal role in enhancing the social, mental and physical wellbeing of our wonderful residents. You can make all the difference to their day! How wonderful to be able to give back to those that once looked after us!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the wellbeing team and wider Camberwell residents and families.
  • Engage with residents to enhance their social experience whilst taking them on a journey
  • Ensure the minibus/car is parked in front of the House, ready for carers to transfer residents into the car/minibus, safely, using the wheelchair ramp, if required.
  • Transporting residents by minibus, as a group, exploring Melbourne and surrounds, stopping off from time to time, as directed/ to get an ice cream at the drive through.
  • Transporting individual residents by car, when pre-arranged and safe to do so, to run errands e.g. shopping
  • Complying with environmental and WHS standards, and maintaining compliance
  • Any other duties as required from time to time.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Good understanding of Melbourne location and layout to navigate residents safely to a designated destination.
  • Knowledge and understanding of key local landmarks in the local area would be preferred, but not essential.
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills to ensure routes are well planned and residents return to the house in due time, safely, as agreed.
  • Understanding of compliance with Health and Safety requirements
