The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre are advertising this opportunity on behalf of The Hawthorn Historical Society.
The Hawthorn Historical Society was formed in 1974. Our members are committed to exploring, preserving, and sharing the community’s history and heritage. Our Historical Society is affiliated with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria.
We hold frequent events, including talks, walking tours and displays. We also conduct research, curate our collections and archives, help to answer queries from the public and publish historical publications and a quarterly newsletter.
We are seeking passionate volunteers to help us progress our mission and work.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Treasurer is to ensure that the financial records of the Society are kept in accordance with the obligations to report to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits commission as outlined in the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 (Cth):
- Collect and receive all monies due to the Society.
- Make all payments authorised by the Society.
- Keep correct accounts and books showing the financial affairs of the Society with full details of all receipts and expenditure connected with the activities of the Society.
- Oversee all finances.
- Liaise with President on all financial matters.
- Prepare balance sheets and profit and loss statements for committee meetings and ensure due consideration of financial matters.
- Add new members ‘details onto members list and notify appropriate person to add to mail chimp
- Ensure reports are emailed to the Secretary for distribution.
- Prepare financial report for the Annual General Meeting.
- Coordinate the preparation of the financial statements and their certification by the committee prior to their submission to the AGM
- Take on the role as the Public Officer.
