Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP)

The Hospital Elder Life Program is a new Eastern Health initiative designed to prevent delirium and functional decline in older hospitalised patients. This volunteer‑led program provides warmth, companionship, encouragement and daily activities as directed by the medical team. It is an internationally recognised model shown to reduce delirium by up to half. Delirium is a sudden state of confusion that can reduce functioning and cause complications and longer hospital stays.
